MARCY SILVEIRA

Born and raised in Sonoma County, northern California, I have a lot of memories and connection to our land here.

I am primarily a plein air painter for some 12 years now, after completing 30 units of core art classes at our local junior college, continuing with workshops over the years with such artists as: Chuck Waldman, Greg LaRock, Joan Huffman, and the great Kevin MacPherson, as below, so I can continue to expand as an artist, be experimental maybe push some boundaries....as I try to capture something in my mind's eye.

I start a painting when I connect with the land, once a feeling or mood is evoked, and I work to lay that down while exploring color interactions, shapes and such, working in a loose, energetic style. I step WAY back as often as at the easel, trying not to think TOO much, but checking if the overall mood and composition is evident.

I was fortunate to work with Kevin Macpherson for 2 days during the 'Weekend with the Masters,' American Artist event in Monterey, 2011....and continue to see him as my greatest mentor, delighted to be judged Artist of the month in the composition challenge last spring with my rendition of the 'tunnel' style, ala Edgar Payne, painting Healdsburg Dry Creek Valley's Lambert Bridge, a favorite subject.

Kevin Macpherson said, 'I find Marcy Silveira's bridge painting embraces the tunnel composition in an exciting, suggestive, lost, and mysterious way. Her use of angles, lost and found edges gets us deep into the picture but not in the most obvious way. Congratulations Marcy!!'
